Otto Addo said he was excited on his return as Ghana coach as he attempts to lead the Black Stars to a second successive FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Back in March, he was reappointed Black Stars coach after leading Ghana to the last World Cup in Qatar, but, left his role after the tournament.
The former Ghana international, added: “I am looking forward to this challenge”, promising to work extra hard to get the Black Stars the ticket to the Mundial coming up in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He told the Ghanaian media on Wednesday that this will be a very tough task, but one that is unsurmountable when announcing his squad for Ghana’s upcoming qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic (CAR) next month.
Ghana will be away to the Malians on June 6 in Bamako before hosting the CAR at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi four days later in crucial Group I qualifiers.
Ghana have won one and lost the other in the two matches they have played in these qualifiers, and needs to win these two games to bring their campaign seeking qualification back on track.
And, this is what Otto Addo is affirming in the positive, hoping to prepare the boys very well for the task ahead, knowing only one team will gain passage from the group to the event in 2026.
Ghana have opened camp in Accra with 30 players ahead of these two qualifiers against Mali and the CAR, and Otto Addo believes they will rise to the challenge and produce positive results.
Group I of the African qualifiers, houses Ghana, Mali, the CAR, Chad and the Comoros Islands with Mali leading the group with four points.
Ghana, Comoros and and the CAR, all have three points.
