Black Stars coach Otto Addo has given an assurance that he will take a close look at players on the local scene going forward upon his return as helmsman for Ghana’s senior national football team.
The former Ghana international, has been reappointed coach of the Black Stars after leaving that role at the end of the last FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
“During my last tenure as coach, the only pressure I faced from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), was to give local players a chance in the national team,” Otto Addo told the media in Accra on Wednesday.
That was during his presentation as the new Black Stars coach where he also announced his team for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic next month.
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare, was the only local player named in the 27-man squad for the games, but Otto Addo said going forward, opportunities would be handed to more locally based players to prove themselves.
“Now that I am here, I will have a look at the players playing on the local scene by visiting league centers and watching the games”, he added.
The future for these players he said, looks bright if they can up their game to merit a place in the national team as they will be given equal opportunity to train and prove themselves.
