The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), will celebrate this year’s International Olympic Day celebration at Nima in Accra on Wednesday.
The event will come off at the Nima Cluster of Schools in the Ghanaian capital under the theme ‘Lets Move And Celebrate’ and aims at igniting a collective passion for the Paris Olympic Games coming up later this year in France.
The GOC, is hoping to encourage school children and the public in general to get active in sports and get a feel of the upcoming Olympics.
President of the GOC Ben Nunoo Mensah, said, Ghana will celebrate the day in a unique style with the collaboration of the French Embassy and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
He said, the health of people, especially children is very important and as the world celebrates this important day, kids and youth should be conscious about their health and live healthy lifestyles.
He called for regular exercises, socializing and the eating of a balanced diet at all times.
Mr Nunoo Mensah therefore urged kids and the youth to have an interest in sports and also study Olympism, the Olympic Games, Sportsmanship, Volunteerism and activities of the IOC, GOC and other sports organizations.
The Olympic Day, established in 1948, is the global celebration of sport and getting people active on June 23 each year to commemorate the day the IOC was founded in 1894 by Frenchman Pierre de Coubertine.
