The National Paralympic Committee of Ghana (NPC-Ghana) convened its maiden Extraordinary General Assembly on April 20, 2024, at the Airport West Hotel in Accra. The event, presided over by Mr. Samson Deen, President of NPC-Ghana, brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, sports administrators, delegates from national sports federations, and members of the media.
In his welcome address, Mr. Samson Deen expressed gratitude to all attendees for honoring the invitation to the important gathering. He extended special appreciation to the Honorable Evans Opoku Bobbie (MP), Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. William Kartey, Chief Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Mr. Jeffrey Kumi Manzan Owusu, Head of the Technical Department at the National Sports Authority (NSA), for their support throughout the journey leading up to the Extraordinary General Assembly.
Mr. Deen also acknowledged the steadfast support of the NPC-Ghana Board Members and highlighted the achievements made during his tenure as president, including increased participation of para athletes in national and international events such as the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Despite facing challenges such as attempts to form splinter bodies and legal actions aimed at hindering progress, Mr. Deen commended the resilience and commitment of the NPC-Ghana leadership and members in overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
The agenda for the Extraordinary General Assembly included crucial matters such as the approval of annual membership fees, the consideration of new para sports and their respective federations/associations, amendments to the NPC-Ghana constitution, and the setting of a date for the Elective General Assembly.
Mr. Deen emphasized the importance of inclusion and transparency in addressing urgent matters affecting the NPC-Ghana and urged delegates to actively participate in the discussions and decision-making process.
In closing, Mr. Deen once again welcomed all attendees and expressed his hope for fruitful deliberations that would further advance the Paralympic movement in Ghana. He concluded his address with a heartfelt wish for blessings upon all participants.
