Ghana’s Men’s tennis team, the Golden Rackets have presented their Davis Cup Africa Group III promotional trophy to the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) in Accra.
The Golden Rackets, secured promotion to this level after winning the African Zone IV tournament held in Rwanda last week.
They returned to Accra at the weekend after winning the trophy at the tournament held at the Ecology Tennis Club Kigali, Rwanda.
Receiving the trophy, Nana Dr. Adu Sarkodie who is the coordinator of the Golden Rackets, commended the entire team for achieving such a milestone and raising high, the Flag of Ghana.
He expressed optimism that with continuous training and dedication from the players and with the needed financial and logistic support, Ghana’s tennis team can attain gold in the upcoming Africa Games and obtain the automatic qualification for 2024 Olympics.
Ghana qualified from the Africa Zone IV tournament after topping Pool A with victories over Kenya, Cameroon and Botswana.
The Golden Rackets won the promotional play off rubber with a 3-0 win over hosts Rwanda.
Nigeria booked the other qualifying slot by beating Kenya 2-1 in the promotional fixture.
President of the GTF Isaac Aboagye Duah, said the Federation is proceeding with its plans to win gold at next year’s Africa Games to qualify for the Paris Olympics.
The ultimate aim he added, is to attain promotion to Europe Africa Zone One.
