Asante Kotoko legend Sarfo Gyamfi says the team needs time to hit top form if they are to win something going forward.
The Porcupines, rounded up their preparations for the start of the new season on Sunday with a goalless drawn game against Nsoatreman FC in Kumasi.
Coach Prosper Nartey Ogum’s side, have been unimpressive in their pre-season games, despite being unbeaten to date.
Some pundits have questioned whether the record Ghana champions can mount a challenge on the domestic front next season, placing other teams ahead of them.
However, Sarfo Gyamfi has allayed those fears, believing the team will get going as the new season unfolds.
“The team is just coming out of pre-season, and I am positive that they will rise to the occasion as the season evolves,” Gyamfi told the local media after last Sunday’s game at the Baba Yara Stadium.
He therefore called on supporters of the club to rally behind the team as they go into competitive action starting this weekend.
The 2023/24 football season is scheduled to begin on Friday with the first game in the betPawa Premier League.
Asante Kotoko’s opening game of the campaign will be against Kpando Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.
And, the former Ghana international is anticipating a positive outcome for his former club as they go in search of their opening three points of the campaign.
