The Ghana National Boxing Team, famously known as the Black Bombers, is gearing up for an exciting challenge as they prepare to take on their counterparts from New Zealand. Set to participate in an international professional and amateur boxing tournament in Auckland this June, the Black Bombers are eager to showcase their skills and test themselves against tough competition.
According to Mr. Dauda Fuseni, Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), the tournament aims to provide an opportunity for boxers from both countries to hone their talents and prepare for future competitions. While the main team focuses on the second World Boxing Qualifier for Paris 2024 in Thailand, a reserve side comprising promising young talents like Mohammed Aryeetey and Abu Kamoko will represent Ghana in New Zealand.
The bilateral relationship between the Amateur Federations of Ghana and New Zealand has paved the way for this exciting project, offering invaluable exposure and experience to the Black Bombers. Fuseni emphasized the importance of international exposure for Ghanaian boxers, citing the team’s impressive performance at the 13th African Games, where they clinched four gold, one silver, and two bronze medals.
“We need exposure,” Fuseni stressed, highlighting the necessity for Ghanaian boxers to compete on the global stage. He emphasized the significance of ensuring the Black Bombers’ presence at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, emphasizing Ghana’s proud boxing heritage and the need to uphold it.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming tournament in New Zealand, the Black Bombers are determined to make their mark and continue Ghana’s legacy as a powerhouse in the world of boxing. With their sights set on Olympic glory, the Black Bombers are ready to face any challenge that comes their way.
