In a shocking turn of events, Ghana Premier League outfit Aduana Stars Football Club has made headlines by suspending seven players amidst allegations of bribery during a match against Karela United.
The club’s Assistant Coach, W. O. Tandoh, has reportedly pointed fingers at Youth Team coach and former team captain Yahaya Mohammed, alleging his involvement as a conduit between Aduana Stars and Karela United. It’s claimed that Mohammed accepted Gh¢5,000 to distribute among the players.
Responding swiftly to the allegations, Aduana Stars has taken firm action, suspending Yahaya Mohammed from all club-related activities and relieving him of his duties as the Youth Team coach.
Furthermore, the club has suspended players Bright Adjei, Sam Adams, Silas Obeng Kyeremeh, Emmanuel Gyamfi, goalkeeper Yaw Ansah Fufuro, and Iddrisu Shaibu, pending further investigation.
Interestingly, it’s been noted that two of the players under suspension didn’t even participate in the match under scrutiny, while Silas Obeng Kyeremeh was substituted in the first half due to illness. This leaves only Sam Adams as the player who completed the game.
As investigations unfold, Aduana Stars finds itself on the edge with a crucial match against Accra Lions looming at the Accra Sports Stadium in matchweek 29 of the Ghana Premier League. This saga underscores the paramount importance of maintaining integrity within the sport, both on and off the field.
