Recently, members of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), gathered in Kumasi for an emergency general meeting, and appointed a three-member IMC to steer affairs of the body until new elections are held to elect new national officers.
This meeting, was held on September 24, 2023, and attended by 15 out of the 19 GTTA members, signifying a strong majority consensus in the decision that was taken during the meeting.
Apparently, the mandate of the old GTTA executive headed by Mr Mawuko Afadzinu had expired on May 4, 2023, this prompting members of the association to put in this IMC to lay the grounds for the election of new national officers.
This, is indeed a strong signal by persons who have the general interest of Ghana table tennis at heart, and who wants to develop it to new heights.
The IMC is headed by Naa Abdulai-Razak, Chairman of the Upper West, with the Ashanti regional chairman, Tweneboa Kodua and the Eastern regional technical director Philip Boafo, as the other members.
They are aiming for a transparent and democratic process in the lead up to the elections that would elect new national officers for table tennis.
The IMC remains steadfast, and have called on the National Sports Authority (NSA), to conduct proper investigation into the affairs of the former executive led by Mr Afadzinu.
The NSA it added, has no mandate to accept or reject the properly constituted IMC, since the meeting that was convened in appointing them, was was in strict accordance with Article 1.19.1.2 of the GTTA constitution.
The IMC remains open to constructive dialogue with the NSA to address issues that would lead to the elections and the good of Ghana table tennis going forward.
