Swedru All Blacks Face License Revocation Over Pitch Re-Grassing Issue

Swedru All Blacks are having a stellar season in the Access Bank Division 1 Zone 2, leading the table with 39 points, ahead of Rospak, who trail with 35 points. However, the club is facing a setback after the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Competition Department directed them to re-grass sections of their home pitch before their next home game.

Speaking on Takoradi-based Westgold Radio, the club’s Head of Communications, Nathaniel Obeng, expressed concerns over the directive. He revealed that while the club has been asked to re-grass the field, no alternative venue has been suggested, and the financial burden of the work falls entirely on the club rather than the National Sports Authority (NSA).

"The NSA rents out the pitch for events like funerals but does nothing to maintain it. Before the season started, we spent not less than GH₵80,000 on the facility," Obeng lamented.

Despite the setback, he assured fans that discussions are ongoing to resolve the issue. Fortunately, their next fixture is an away game in Elmina, giving them time to meet the required conditions before their next home match.

Obeng also hinted at plans to engage the new Sports Minister for assistance. "We hope he will listen to our plea, but if we don’t get answers, we may have to look for alternatives," he stated.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to veteran broadcaster Professor George Kuntu Blankson, reminiscing about listening to him while studying at T-Poly in 2009.
