BLACK QUEENS RECEIVE HEROES' WELCOME AFTER WAFCON 2024 BRONZE TRIUMPH
The Black Queens returned home to a rousing and patriotic reception at the Kotoka International Airport after clinching bronze at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Leading the welcoming party was Madam Wilhemina Asamoah, Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, joined by key technical officials, jubilant supporters, and well-wishers who gathered to honour the team’s outstanding achievement on the continental stage.
In an emotional address, Madam Asamoah commended the team’s heroic effort. “Ghana is immensely proud of your performance. By finishing third once again, just as you did in 2016, you've written a new chapter in our football history,” she said. “This bronze medal is a testament to your hard work, resilience, and unwavering determination.”
She also lauded the leadership of Head Coach Kim Lars and his technical team for instilling discipline, belief, and tactical excellence in the squad. “Your vision and leadership have elevated the Black Queens and inspired a renewed spirit of hope in women’s football,” she added.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to women’s sports, Madam Asamoah pledged continued support for the growth and development of female football across the country. “Your success has ignited hope for young girls everywhere. With unity and hard work, we can break barriers and reach even greater heights.”
The Black Queens’ podium finish has sparked celebrations nationwide, energizing a new wave of interest and ambition in women’s football. Their achievement not only elevates Ghana’s status on the African stage but also reinforces the nation’s dedication to nurturing and empowering female athletes.
