Mingle Ocansey Explains Benjamin Asare’s Absence from Black Galaxies Squad

Black Galaxies head coach Kasim Mingle Ocansey has clarified the decision to leave goalkeeper Benjamin Asare out of his squad for the team’s trip to South Africa, stressing that the move was both deliberate and developmental.

According to the experienced coach, Asare has already reached a level that places him beyond the scope of the home-based national team, having firmly established himself within the senior national side, the Black Stars.

“There’s no reason to keep calling Benjamin Asare to the Black Galaxies when he already has a place in the Black Stars and has justified himself at that level,” Mingle Ocansey explained.

The Black Galaxies handler noted that persistently inviting Asare would only deny opportunities to other deserving goalkeepers in the domestic league who are still seeking exposure and a platform to prove their quality on the international stage.

“There are many goalkeepers in the local league who also deserve the opportunity to prove themselves. It doesn’t make sense to invite him to the Black Galaxies again just to ‘justify’ himself,” he added.

Mingle Ocansey emphasized that the Black Galaxies remain a pathway for local talents to showcase their abilities and push for higher recognition, including potential elevation to the Black Stars. By shifting focus to other goalkeepers, the technical team hopes to broaden the pool of reliable options available to Ghana’s national teams.

The Black Galaxies are currently using the South Africa trip as part of their preparations, with the coaching staff keen on assessing new faces and building a competitive squad capable of delivering at future tournaments.
