Former WBO Super Bantamweight champion, Isaac Dogboe, has taken to his social media platforms to announce his highly anticipated return to the boxing ring. The ‘Royal Storm’ currently holds the number 2 spot in the WBC rankings and is gearing up to face the undefeated Liverpool resident, Nick Ball (18-0, 11KOs), in an eliminator bout for the prestigious WBC world featherweight title.
Dogboe revealed that the showdown will take place on November 18th of this year, and it’s set to be a historic moment for him as it marks his first professional fight on British soil. Throughout his career spanning 27 fights, Dogboe has fought in various parts of the world, including Switzerland (where he made his pro debut), Northern Ireland, the US, Ghana, and New Zealand. However, his 28th bout is bound to be special as it places him in the boxing ring in the United Kingdom for the very first time.
The Ghanaian boxer’s last appearance was in April of the current year when he faced Cuban opponent Robeisy Ramirez for the vacant WBO World Featherweight title, which ended in defeat via a unanimous decision. Now, with aspirations of becoming a two-time and two-division World champion, Dogboe sees this clash with Nick Ball as a pivotal opportunity to realize that dream, akin to his role model, the legendary Azumah Nelson.
On the other side of the ring, Nick Ball, who presently holds the WBC Silver featherweight title, is eager to earn his shot at a world title. In his 18 professional fights, Ball has yet to taste the pinnacle of the sport. His first title bout for the WBC Silver featherweight title was against Isaac Lowe in April of the previous year, where he managed to secure a victory by stopping Lowe in the 3rd round, thus winning the vacant silver title. Ball has since defended this title three times, with his most recent defense taking place on May 27, 2023.
With the WBC World Featherweight Title currently in the possession of Mexican champion Rey Vargas (36-1, 22KOs), who, as of now, doesn’t have a scheduled fight, the stakes are high for both Dogboe and Ball. Dogboe aims to climb back to the top of the featherweight division, while Ball is poised to seize his first-ever shot at a world title.
Boxing enthusiasts and fans worldwide will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on this exciting WBC featherweight eliminator bout, set to unfold in the electric atmosphere of Manchester, UK, on November 18, 2023.
