Kingsley Osei Bonsu, known in the football community as Lord Zico and the Chief Executive Officer of Bechem United, has successfully retained his seat on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council. This hard-fought victory came after a marathon of elections held in Tamale on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Lord Zico faced strong competition from Elloeny Amande, the CEO of Karela United, in a closely contested battle. After two rounds of voting, both candidates were tied with nine votes each. However, in a decisive third round, Mr. Osei Bonsu secured an impressive twelve votes, while Elloeny Amande received six votes, allowing Lord Zico to hold on to his position on the highest decision-making body of Ghanaian football.
The GFA elections also saw other notable figures, including Frederick Acheampong, Randy Abbey, and Oduro Sarfo, successfully retaining their seats on the Executive Council. However, Dr. Tony Aubynn lost his seat to Asante Kotoko’s technical director, James Kwesi Appiah.
These election results highlight the intense and competitive nature of football governance in Ghana, where dedicated individuals like Lord Zico continue to play vital roles in shaping the future of the sport. Lord Zico’s re-election ensures his continued involvement in the leadership and decision-making processes of the GFA.
