Champions Medeama faced a tough challenge as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Nations FC in a thrilling encounter at Abrankese on their return to Ghanaian domestic football on Sunday.
The match was a showcase of entertaining football as both sides battled fiercely, ultimately sharing the spoils in the Ghanaian top-flight.
Medeama took the lead in the 32nd minute when left-back Fatawu Sulemana converted a brilliant free-kick, sending the visitors into an early advantage. However, Nations FC quickly responded as Asamoah Boateng Afriyie capitalized on a defensive error to level the score just before halftime.
Throughout the game, Medeama posed a threat on the counter-attack, with missed opportunities from Baba Musah and Derrick Fordjour’s crosses adding to the excitement. Despite Nations FC’s relentless pressure in the second half, goalkeeper Felix Kyei stood firm, denying the home team any further goals.
Despite the stalemate, Medeama will be disappointed not to secure a victory after producing an excellent performance on the road. The champions remain in 10th place on the table with 26 points but have two outstanding matches.
Medeama coach Nebjosa Kapor will be pleased with his team’s performance as they prepare to host Bechem United in their next fixture at home.
On the other hand, Nations FC, who recently stunned league leaders Samartex FC, will be frustrated with the draw at home. Coach Kasim Mingle faces a challenging task in preparing his team for the Premier League title race. Currently sitting in fourth place with 31 points, Nations FC will travel to the capital to take on Legon Cities in their next match.
Despite the setback, both teams showcased their quality and determination, promising more exciting clashes to come in the Ghanaian Premier League.
