Ghana Premier League (GPL), giants Asante Kotoko will for the foreseeable future honour their home matches at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex after, the National Sports Authority (NSA) temporarily closed the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi for renovations.
The decision comes as part of a broader initiative to upgrade the Baba Yara Stadium’s facilities, leaving the Porcupine Warriors in need of a new home ground for the for the start of the GPL which commences this weekend.
The Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, located in Abrankese near Kumasi, will serve as the club’s temporary base until the Baba Yara Stadium is re-opened for competitive football.
Asante Kotoko’s management has assured fans that the shift will not affect the team’s preparations or performance for the coming season, expressing confidence that the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex will provide a conducive environment for both players and supporters of the club.
Further details regarding the reopening of the Baba Yara Stadium will be announced by the NSA in the coming months.
Asante Kotoko plays their opening league game of the season away to Karela United at Nalerigu on Sunday before playing their first home game of the season next weekend against Nsoatreman FC.
