Former Black Stars midfielder Afriyie Acquah has embarked on an unexpected journey in his football career, signing a short-term contract with Nepal’s FC Chitwan.
The 31-year-old midfielder, who has had a diverse football career, arrived at the Nepalese top-flight club as a free agent after successfully passing his medical examination just three days prior.
Acquah’s journey has been marked by his versatility and global experience. He had been without a club since his contract with Iraqi club Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya expired in July 2023. This followed his stint with Al-Batin FC, where he made eight appearances in the Saudi Pro League.
Throughout his career, Acquah has left his mark in various leagues, including Serie A in Italy, the Turkish Super Lig, and even in the Middle East. He had stints with AC Parma, Torino, Empoli, Palermo, and Hoffenheim, showcasing his adaptability and skill on the field.
In the Turkish Super Lig, he played for Yeni Malatyaspor, amassing 65 appearances across all competitions. During his time there, he managed to score four goals and provide three assists, contributing significantly to his team’s performance.
On the international stage, Acquah represented Ghana with distinction, earning 42 caps since his debut on March 1, 2012, in an international friendly match against Chile. His memorable moment came when he scored his only international goal in a match against Malawi during the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications.
