In a spectacular display of prowess, the Black Princesses of Ghana have clinched their spot in the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, slated to unfold in Colombia later this year. Coach Yussif Basigi’s squad showcased resilience and skill, triumphing over Senegal in both legs of the qualification round.
The journey to qualification commenced with a decisive 2-0 victory in Dakar during the first leg. Undeterred by Senegal’s early goal in the return fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Ghana’s Black Princesses rallied with determination. Maafia Nyame’s 18th-minute equalizer marked a turning point, paving the way for a dominant performance.
Beline Nyarko further solidified Ghana’s lead with a goal in the 23rd minute, creating a commanding advantage by halftime. The second half witnessed an outstanding continuation of the Black Princesses’ form, with goals from Tracey Twum, who converted a penalty, Salamatu Abdulai, and Beline Nyarko.
This victory marks Ghana’s seventh qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, affirming their stature as a force to be reckoned with in youth women’s football. Joining the ranks of Nigeria, Morocco, and Cameroon, Ghana solidifies Africa’s representation in the upcoming tournament scheduled from August 31 to September 22, 2024. The stage is set for the Black Princesses to showcase their talent on the global platform.
