Record champions Asante Kotoko secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nsoatreman FC in their Matchday Two outstanding fixture in the Ghana Premier League (GPL ), played on Wednesday .
Forward, Elvis Kyei Baffour playing his second game of the season, scored the lone goal for the Porcupines in the 47′ to hand all three points to Kotoko who maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign with the win.
Also on Wednesday, reigning champions FC Samartex also maintained their unbeaten start after playing out a 1-1 drawn game at home to Bibiani Gold Stars.
Asante Kotoko struggled to find an opening in a tightly fought first half against Nsoatreman FC at the Len Clay Stadium, Obuasi.
Back from recess, Kotoko upped their game and found the opening when Kyei Baffour headed in a cross by Saaka Dauda as Kotoko posted their second win of the season.
They are second on the table with eight points after four games, and, they will be home to Accra Lions on Sunday in their next fixture also at home.
Nsoatreman FC, are 15th on the log with three points, and do have a game in hand. The next play against Legon Cities at home in Nsoatre on Sunday.
Emmanuel Mamah’s goal for FC Samartex in the first half, was canceled by Kelvin Oppong in the second for Gold Stars as the spoils were shared at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, Samreboi.
Samartex, have five points from the three matches they have played with a game in hand.
They will be up against Karela United away at Tamale on Sunday in their next fixture.
Gold Stars are third on the table with eight points from four games, and also also unbeaten.
The Miners will host Bechem United at Bibiani on Sunday in their next game.
