Asante Kotoko forward Albert Amoah is set to be out of action for two months following a partial tear of the anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) in his right leg. The injury occurred during Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League (GPL) week 16 clash against Medeama SC at the TnA Stadium.
The 22-year-old forward sustained the injury during the second half of the match after an awkward landing while contesting an aerial ball. Amoah was immediately substituted and later underwent medical examinations, which revealed the extent of the damage.
The anterior talofibular ligament, located in the ankle, is a crucial stabilizer that often gets injured in cases of sprains or sudden twists. Amoah’s injury is classified as a partial tear, which, though less severe than a complete rupture, still requires significant recovery time. The club’s medical team has outlined a rehabilitation program, including physiotherapy and strength-building exercises, to aid his recovery.
Albert Amoah has been an integral part of Asante Kotoko’s attacking lineup this season, contributing seven goals and two assists in the league. His absence will undoubtedly be a blow to the Porcupine Warriors, who are currently pushing to solidify their position in the top half of the table.
Asante Kotoko fans and the wider football community have taken to social media to wish Amoah a speedy recovery. The club is expected to rely on other attacking options, including Kwame Opoku and Saaka Duada , to fill the void during Amoah’s absence.
Amoah’s return is tentatively scheduled for March, provided his recovery proceeds without complications. His comeback will be crucial as Kotoko looks to regain momentum in the latter stages of the GPL season.
