Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak to Clash in Historic Maiden Cocoa Cup

Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak are set to renew their fierce rivalry in a historic encounter as they face off in the maiden edition of the Cocoa Cup on 25th March, 2025, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The high-profile fixture will bring together Ghana’s two most successful clubs in what promises to be a thrilling contest, adding a new chapter to their storied rivalry. Beyond pride and bragging rights, significant financial incentives are also at stake.

Both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak will each receive an appearance fee of $50,000 for participating in the inaugural match. However, the stakes rise even higher, as the winner of the game will pocket a massive $1 million prize.

In addition to the financial reward, the victorious club will earn the honour of representing Ghana at the maiden international edition of the Cocoa Cup, giving the competition continental significance from its very first outing.

The Cocoa Cup is expected to become a major fixture on Ghana’s football calendar, and starting it with a Kotoko–Hearts showdown underscores the ambition behind the competition. With Kumasi set to host, anticipation is already building among fans across the country for what is expected to be a landmark night in Ghanaian football.
