Chinese Professional Football League Fines Chengdu Rongcheng FC After Racial Abuse Toward Frank Acheampong

The Chinese Professional Football League (CPFL) has taken decisive action after Ghanaian international Frank Acheampong was subjected to racial abuse during a league match involving Chengdu Rongcheng FC.

In a firm statement of zero tolerance for racism, the league has imposed a US$70,000 fine on Chengdu Rongcheng FC, holding the club accountable for the conduct of its supporters. The incident occurred during a recent fixture when sections of the home crowd directed discriminatory chants and gestures toward Acheampong, prompting immediate complaints from the player and his team.

According to the league’s disciplinary committee, the sanction follows a thorough review of match footage, referee reports, and testimonies from match officials. The committee emphasized that racism has no place in Chinese football and reiterated its commitment to protecting players regardless of nationality.

Chengdu Rongcheng FC has been instructed to implement enhanced fan education programs, increase stadium monitoring, and issue a public apology. The club is also expected to submit a compliance report detailing steps taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Frank Acheampong, who has been one of the standout foreign players in the competition, has received widespread support from fans, fellow players, and advocacy groups. Many have praised the CPFL for acting swiftly and setting an example for other leagues in Asia.

The ruling is expected to send a strong message across Chinese football, reinforcing the need for respect, fair play, and inclusion both on and off the pitch.
