EXCLUSIVE: Asante Kotoko SC Set to Part Ways with Goalkeeper Frederick Asare Over Contract Renewal Delays
Asante Kotoko SC are reportedly not interested in continuing with goalkeeper Frederick Asare ahead of the new season, sources close to the club have revealed.
The Porcupine Warriors are said to be unhappy with Asare’s reluctance to renew his contract, which is nearing its expiration. Despite earlier assurances from the club’s Head of Sporting Affairs, Kwesi Appiah, that the goalkeeper was happy and committed to the team, fresh reports indicate a growing frustration within the Kotoko camp over the delay.
Asare, who recently resumed training after recovering from a knee injury, has fallen down the pecking order following the emergence of Guinean shot-stopper Mohammed Camara and youngster Fatawu Seidu.
With the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season approaching, Kotoko appear keen on resolving all contract uncertainties and are expected to release Asare should he fail to extend his stay.
The 25-year-old joined the Reds from Accra Lions in 2022 and made several appearances before injuries derailed his campaign. His contract is believed to expire in July or August 2025.
