Exclusive: Bibiani GoldStars SC to Use Baba Yara Stadium for CAF Champions League Home Games
Bibiani GoldStars SC have officially settled on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi as their home venue for the upcoming CAF Champions League preliminary round fixtures, sources close to the club have confirmed.
The decision comes after a thorough inspection by the club's management and officials from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), as the Dun's Park in Bibiani did not meet CAF’s strict requirements for hosting continental matches.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, with its larger seating capacity and modern facilities, provides a more suitable ground for international competitions. The move is aimed at not only meeting CAF’s standards but also giving GoldStars the platform to perform on a bigger stage with improved pitch quality and fan access.
GoldStars, who made history by securing a place in Africa’s premier club competition for the first time, are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations. Head Coach Frimpong Manso and his technical team are expected to begin intensive pre-season training in early July to get the squad ready for their debut continental appearance.
The club is also working with local supporters’ groups in the Ashanti Region to ensure that they receive solid fan backing during home games. GoldStars are expected to know their preliminary round opponents when CAF conducts the draw in the coming weeks.
With this venue decision, Bibiani GoldStars are signaling their intent to make a strong impression on their maiden CAF Champions League journey.
