Hearts of Oak End Chelsea’s Home Streak with Crucial Win at Golden City Park
Hearts of Oak brought Berekum Chelsea’s ten-game unbeaten home run to a halt with a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Golden City Park on Sunday in a Ghana Premier League Round 31 clash.
The match was decided in the 56th minute when Mawuli Wayo capitalized on a defensive lapse to fire home the only goal of the game, securing a vital three points for the Phobians in a tightly contested encounter.
A cagey first half saw few chances as both sides battled for control in midfield. Chelsea, known for their home resilience, struggled to break down a well-organized Hearts defense.
After the break, Hearts increased their tempo and were rewarded with Wayo’s clinical finish just 11 minutes into the second half.
The win marks Hearts of Oak’s third straight triumph over their former coach Samuel Boadu, now at the helm of Berekum Chelsea. It also extends the Phobians’ unbeaten streak against Chelsea to ten matches—the Blues’ last win dating back to 2019.
The defeat is a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of a strong season finish, while Hearts further cement their place in the top half of the league table.
