Hohoe United Earns Historic Ghana Premier League Promotion with Emphatic Win Over Inter Allies
Hohoe United have secured a historic promotion to the Ghana Premier League after defeating Inter Allies 3-1 on the penultimate weekend of the Division One League Zone III season.
The win, their fifth consecutive victory, capped off a remarkable run of form and cemented their place at the top of the table ahead of their final match against Great Olympics. It’s a landmark achievement for the Volta Region-based club, who only recently emerged on the national football stage.
Hohoe United was formed after Liberty Professionals exited competitive football in 2023, with new ownership led by Hohoe MP John-Peter Amewu acquiring Liberty’s Division One slot. The Ghana Football Association officially approved the name change after the club submitted all required legal documentation, making Hohoe United the club's new identity. Under the agreement, the club retains all rights and obligations of the former Liberty Professionals.
With 22 wins from 29 matches, Hohoe United have thrilled fans with their disciplined, organised football and consistent results. Their closest challengers, Port City, dropped points against True Democracy, making it mathematically impossible for them to catch up.
This promotion marks a new era for the Volta Region in Ghanaian football, with Hohoe United set to represent the region at the top flight for the first time ever in the upcoming Premier League season.
