“Kotoko’s Level Has Dropped” — Yaw Preko Speaks on Changing Perception of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club

Former Ghana international Yaw Preko has raised concerns about the current status of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, suggesting that the club no longer commands the same level of respect and influence it once enjoyed in Ghanaian football.

Speaking about the Porcupine Warriors’ current situation, Preko claimed that some clubs in the Ghana Premier League now believe they are better run than Kotoko. According to him, teams such as Bibiani GoldStars SC have grown in confidence both on and off the pitch, which reflects a perceived shift in the balance of power.

Preko noted that this change in perception has affected how some clubs approach matches against Kotoko. He explained that when a team like GoldStars loses to Kotoko in a league match, they sometimes believe the result was influenced by the referee rather than accepting defeat on sporting merit.

The former winger believes this mindset stems from what many see as a decline in Kotoko’s dominance in recent years. He argued that in the past, Kotoko’s strong structure and reputation meant few clubs would question results involving them.

Preko emphasized that the solution lies in Kotoko rebuilding its authority through proper management, consistency, and strong performances on the field. According to him, restoring the club’s image will help re-establish the respect it once commanded across the Ghana Premier League.

He concluded that Kotoko remains one of the biggest institutions in Ghanaian football, but must work hard to regain the standards that made them a feared and respected force in the domestic game.
