Young Referee Alex Amoabeng to Officiate Kotoko–Medeama Showdown on Sunday
Twenty-one-year-old referee Alex Amoabeng is set to take centre stage on Sunday as he has been appointed to officiate the much-anticipated clash between Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC.
Amoabeng’s rise through the ranks has been steady and impressive. This season, he has quietly built a reputation as one of the promising young officials in the league. He made his topflight debut in Week 7, where he handled the match between Heart of Lions and Basake Holy Stars, a game the Lions comfortably won 3–0.
Despite his youth, Amoabeng has shown confidence, good game management and an eye for fairness, earning him trust from the Referees Committee. Sunday’s assignment, however, will be the biggest test of his career so far. Matches between Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC are known for their intensity, pressure and high stakes, and the young whistle-blower will be in the spotlight from start to finish.
A strong performance will further cement his growing reputation, while also signaling that a new generation of referees is ready to take charge of Ghana’s biggest football moments. All eyes will be on him as he steps onto the pitch on Sunday.
