Aduana FC CEO Rejects Kotoko Claims, Says Alex Boakye — Not Samba O’Niel — Is League’s Best Centre-Back
Aduana FC CEO Counters Claims About Kotoko’s Samba O’Niel, Backs Alex Boakye as League’s Best Centre-Back
Chief Executive Officer of Aduana FC, Collins Atta Poku, has pushed back against growing sentiments in Kumasi that Asante Kotoko defender Samba O’Niel is the best centre-back in the Ghana Premier League. Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, Atta Poku made it clear that while he respects the talent of the Kotoko defender, he firmly believes the top spot belongs elsewhere.
According to him, the most outstanding centre-back in the league this season is Alex Boakye, the defensive stalwart of Aduana FC. Atta Poku praised Boakye’s consistency, leadership, and tactical intelligence, noting that his performances have been key to Aduana’s strong defensive record.
“I hear people in Kumasi say Kotoko centre-back Samba O’Niel is the best in the league, but we disagree. For us, the best centre-back is Alex Boakye of Aduana FC,” Atta Poku stated.
He emphasized that Boakye’s numbers, his influence on the pitch, and his reliability under pressure make him a standout defender worthy of league-wide recognition. Atta Poku also suggested that the hype surrounding certain players is often influenced by regional biases and media narratives, but insisted that objective assessment should put Boakye ahead.
The comments are expected to spark debate among fans, especially with both Kotoko and Aduana boasting some of the strongest defensive units in the league. As the season progresses, the performance of both Samba O’Niel and Alex Boakye will continue to attract attention, fueling an intriguing rivalry between the two clubs.
