BREAKING NEWS: Karim Zito Arrives in Kumasi to Take Over Asante Kotoko Head Coach Role

Dreams FC head coach Abdul Karim Zito has safely arrived in Kumasi to officially take over the vacant coaching role at Asante Kotoko, following the dismissal of Prosper Narteh Ogum.

The Porcupine Warriors parted ways with Ogum earlier today after a crucial meeting by the club’s interim management committee. Sources close to the club cite poor performance as the primary reason behind the decision.

Karim Zito is no stranger to the Kotoko faithful. The seasoned coach, who once played for the club and was part of their historic 1983 CAF Champions League-winning squad, is making a return to familiar territory where he also previously served on the technical bench.

Ogum, who famously led Kotoko to the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title, exits with a mixed legacy. While his first spell ended the club's long wait for league success, his return failed to meet expectations this season.

Under his leadership in the current campaign, Kotoko played 28 matches, securing 13 wins, 8 draws, and 7 losses. The team scored 28 goals and conceded 21, averaging 1.68 points per game. Recent defeats to Accra Lions and Nations FC further fueled doubts about his future.

The club has expressed its gratitude to Coach Ogum for his dedication and service, wishing him well in his next chapter.

Karim Zito is now expected to revive the club’s season and bring back the winning mentality synonymous with the Kotoko brand.
