CAF Declines Approval for Baba Yara; Kotoko to Host Wydad at Accra Sports Stadium
Asante Kotoko SC management has officially confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has declined approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup clash against Wydad Athletic Club.
In a statement released by the club, management disclosed that CAF’s inspection team cited certain technical and facility-related deficiencies at the Baba Yara Stadium, leading to its disqualification as a venue for continental matches at this stage of the competition.
As a result, the Porcupine Warriors will now play thei6r first-leg encounter against Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
Kotoko have expressed their disappointment over the decision but assured supporters that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth and successful hosting of the fixture in Accra.
The club further appealed to its fans to turn up in large numbers to rally behind the team as they aim for a positive result before traveling for the reverse fixture in Casablanca.
Asante Kotoko, representing Ghana in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, are seeking to make a deep run in the competition after an impressive start to their domestic campaign.
