GAME CHANGER: GFA Introduces Minimum Salaries for Professional Footballers in Ghana
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a historic move to improve the welfare of professional footballers in the country by introducing minimum monthly salaries across the domestic leagues.
At the just-ended Ordinary Congress, clubs unanimously agreed to the new wage structure, which takes immediate effect.
Ghana Premier League: Minimum net monthly salary of GHS 1,500.00
Division One League: Minimum net monthly salary of GHS 700.00
Women’s Premier League: Minimum net monthly salary of GHS 700.00
The decision is expected to enhance player motivation, reduce financial challenges faced by footballers, and further professionalize the game in Ghana.
GFA President, Kurt E.S Okraku, who has long championed reforms to uplift the local game, hailed the move as another milestone in his administration’s vision. Branded as the “Game Changer,” Okraku continues to spearhead policies aimed at transforming Ghana football both on and off the pitch.
This initiative is being welcomed by players, clubs, and stakeholders as a bold step towards making football a more sustainable career in Ghana.
