GFA Approves 2025/26 Competitions Calendar Ahead of FIFA World Cup
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has approved the 2025/26 GFA Omnibus Competitions Calendar following a comprehensive presentation by the General Secretary.
The upcoming football season is set to officially begin on July 1, 2025, and end on June 30, 2026. This timeline aligns with the GFA Statutes and the Association’s accounting year.
In designing the new calendar, the GFA has taken into account the 23rd FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026. As a result, all elite domestic competitions will be completed before the start of the global football event.
Key Highlights of the 2025/26 Season:
Premier League: All matches will continue to be played on Sundays, with midweek dates allocated for outstanding fixtures—maintaining the structure of the 2024/25 season.
Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League and Division One League: These competitions will also maintain Sunday matchdays.
MTN FA Cup: Selected matches in the Round of 64 and Round of 63 may be played midweek. However, all Women’s FA Cup matches will be held exclusively on weekends.
The calendar is expected to provide a structured and competitive environment for domestic football while allowing ample preparation for Ghana's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
