GFA Enforces Regulations as Nsoatreman FC Withdraws from Ghana Premier League

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has activated competition regulations following Nsoatreman FC’s withdrawal from the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

In a letter signed by the club president and submitted via the official club email on March 14, 2025, Nsoatreman cited safety concerns as the primary reason for their withdrawal. The club expressed fears over the security of their players, particularly after incidents in recent matches against Asante Kotoko and FC Samartex 1996.

The decision follows months of turmoil that began with the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley during their league encounter with Nsoatreman in early February. The incident led to multiple arrests, including that of Nsoatreman owner Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, prompting the GFA to suspend the league for a month to implement enhanced security measures.

Despite pledging to continue after the break, Nsoatreman faced another violent episode while traveling to face Samartex, where hooligans attacked the team despite a police escort. Unable to ensure their players' safety, the club decided to withdraw from the league and subsequently dissolve.

The GFA, after several unsuccessful engagements with the club, has referred the matter to its Prosecutor. As per Article 13(5) of the competition regulations, Nsoatreman’s scheduled matches will be considered forfeited, with three points and three goals awarded to their opponents for the remainder of th

e season.
