UPDATE ON BLACK STARS AFTER SPORTS MINISTER’S PRESS STATEMENT

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has provided a detailed update on the Black Stars’ budget and bonus structure ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali.

According to the Minister, each Black Stars player will now receive $5,000 as a winning bonus, while head coach Otto Addo will take home $10,000 under the newly approved scheme. This revised structure will be applied in the upcoming fixtures — Chad away on September 4 and Mali at home on September 8 in Accra.

In a significant change, members of the Black Stars Management Committee will not be entitled to bonuses, a move aimed at cutting down costs and ensuring funds are directed primarily to players and technical staff.

The Minister also outlined the official budget allocations for the two matches. The away trip to Chad has been budgeted at $841,290, while the home game against Mali will cost $463,600, bringing the total expenditure to $1.3 million for the doubleheader.

Hon. Kofi Adams emphasized that the government remains committed to supporting the Black Stars while ensuring prudent financial management.

Ghana will be seeking to secure maximum points in both games as part of their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
