Ghana Midfielder Francis Abu Undergoes Successful Surgery in Japan After Horrific Injury Against Blue Samurai

Ghanaian midfielder Francis Abu has successfully undergone surgery in Japan following the horrific injury he sustained in the international friendly against the Blue Samurai earlier this month.

Abu suffered the setback midway through the first half after a forceful challenge left him in severe pain, forcing the medical team to immediately call for urgent attention. He was stretched off and later diagnosed with a significant lower-limb injury, requiring specialized surgical intervention.

After a detailed medical evaluation, the player was transferred to one of Japan’s top sports medicine facilities, where the procedure was completed successfully. A statement from the Black Stars medical department confirmed that the surgery went as planned and that Abu is now in stable condition.

The 22-year-old will remain in Japan for the initial phase of his recovery before continuing his rehabilitation under the supervision of the Ghana medical team. Early projections indicate that he could make a full return to competitive action sometime in 2026, depending on his response to rehabilitation.

Abu has been a rising figure in the national setup, and his absence will be felt by both club and country. Nonetheless, the midfielder remains optimistic, expressing confidence in making a strong comeback.

The Ghana Football Association, teammates, and fans across the nation have all extended their support and well-wishes as he begins the long road to recovery.
