Match Report: Asante Kotoko Pip Hearts of Oak 1-0 in Accra - Ghana Premier League
Asante Kotoko claimed a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in the latest edition of the Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The decisive moment came in the 44th minute when Guinean forward Morifing Donzo converted from the penalty spot. Kotoko earned the spot kick after Peter Acquah Amidu dazzled his way through the Hearts defence and was brought down by Yaw Amankwah Baafi inside the area.
The Porcupine Warriors controlled the tempo in the first half and were duly rewarded for their attacking intent before the break.
Hearts of Oak came back stronger in the second half, pushing for an equalizer and creating several half-chances. Their efforts seemed to pay off late in the game when substitute Mawuli Wayo slotted home from close range, but his goal was ruled out for offside by the assistant referee — a decision that sparked heated protests from the home side.
Kotoko’s defence stood tall in the closing stages to preserve their slender lead, sealing an impressive away win and bragging rights over their arch-rivals. The result further boosts Kotoko’s momentum in the ongoing league campaign.
