NSA Boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah Plots Takeover of TNA Stadium Ahead of New Season

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, and his team are reportedly preparing to reclaim management of the Tarkwa TNA Stadium ahead of the 2025/26 football season.

According to reliable sources, the NSA leadership believes the facility should return under national control as part of a broader effort to streamline sports infrastructure management across the country.

Background

The TNA Stadium was initially constructed and handed over to the National Sports Authority by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation as a key legacy project to promote sports development in Tarkwa and its surrounding communities.

However, following a nationwide challenge of poor maintenance of sports facilities under NSA management, concerns grew over the declining state of the TNA Stadium. In response, the then Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Hon. Benjamin Kessie, led the move for the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly to take over the facility. The aim was to protect the investment and ensure the stadium remained functional and accessible to the people of Tarkwa.

Under the Municipal Assembly’s management, the stadium witnessed improvements in maintenance, scheduling, and access, particularly for local teams and community events.

Now, with Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah at the helm of the NSA, efforts are underway to bring the stadium back under NSA control. This development may lead to discussions between the Authority and the Municipal Assembly to determine the future management structure of the facility.

Stakeholders in Tarkwa are closely watching developments, with many hoping that any decision taken will prioritize the interests of the local sporting community.
