Athletic Bilbao has confirmed the release of Inaki Williams for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, citing his successful recovery from an illness that previously hindered his availability.
Initially delayed in joining his Black Stars compatriots due to health concerns, the Spain-born forward, aged 29, has been given the green light to link up with Ghana’s squad on Thursday morning after being declared fit by the club’s medical team.
“Inaki Williams has sufficiently recuperated from an illness under the care of Athletic Club’s medical services. Iñaki will depart for Ghana early on Thursday to join the Black Stars’ training camp ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations campaign,” the club stated.
His return is anticipated to fortify Ghana’s attacking prowess during the tournament in Ivory Coast, with high expectations for the red-hot forward to lead the charge upfront.
Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, are fervently aiming to clinch the Africa Cup of Nations title, a trophy that has eluded them for 42 years, and Williams’ inclusion adds depth and firepower to their aspirations.
Additionally, Jordan Ayew and Mohammed Kudus are also anticipated to link up with the team today, further bolstering Ghana’s squad ahead of the continental showdown.
